i have a 2006 f350 with stock 18x8
i would like 17x9 aftermarkets
the 3 rims i am deciding on have 4.5 bs/ 4.75 bs/and 5.5 bspacing
i do NOT want these things sticking out
would i be ok with any of these?
the first on is my favorite, but also the one with the 5.5 bs.
i dont want to make a mistake
so i guess what i am asking is i guess 4.5" is "standard", but is going 5.5" a mistake?
I think stock backspacing is 4.5, you can confirm by measuring your stock wheel. If you go an inch wider, 9 inch instead of 8, then you have to go to 5.5 backspacing to keep the outside of the wheel in the same place relative to the body. With the same backspacing as stock, a 9 inch wheel will stick out an inch more.
No idea whether the 9 inch wheel with 5.5 backspacing would rub on the inside, can someone help out?
You need to look at offset, not just backspace. If you use backspace, you need to also take the wheel width into account. Stock offset for your year is +40mm. With a 9" wide wheel, stock offset would yield about 6.5" backspace.
I believe Smokeispower gave you the pre-'05 backspace number, as those years had stock offset of +6mm. Run those wheels on your '06 and they'll stick out about 2". Of the rims you listed, you'll definitely want to go with the 5.5" backspace wheel, which will move your tire center out about 3/4-1". If you go with a wider tire, the tire edge will stick out the wheel difference, plus half the tire width difference.
