so my 95 F350 that i got a week ago tomorrow has a bad motor and needs to be rebuilt when it had supposedly already been gone. thank go that the old owners are gonna cover it. im makng sure i get reciepts and warranties from anyone who touches the motor!! its been in the shop longer than i have had it. hopefully all this will come to a end soon and ill be back on the road
there was no compression in cylinder #4 broken valve.
Yeah I ran into a bad bit of luck with mine early this month. I asked my brother to help me change the throttle position sensor and he BREAKS the TV cable for the transmission. Didn't want to replace it and I didn't know that the cable provides fluid pressure. I turned a corner and it popped off, pulled over and put it back on. Everything's good. 1 week later the trans would not shift into 3rd or 4th. Turned out since the cable popped off the 3rd and 4th gear got burned up. $2k later it's fixed and an aftermarket Lokar cable was put on since Ford in their infinite knowledge discontinued the AOD TV cable. My brother won't admit he burned up my trans nor will he pay me back.
Rotten luck brother. Good thing the dude you got it from is going to front the bill though.
You know, every dark cloud has a silver lining. This would be the perfect time to do a couple of upgrades to that old 460. If it was me I'd be thinking about a fortified stroker short block
And since you have to do some head work maybe think about porting and oversized valves. For reference on what a good head porter can do to our heads take a look at this https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ts-are-in.html
It's a long read but loaded with great info.
Ouch! $2600 for a blown valve! that sounds kinda high to me... Maybe mechanics are costing more these days though...
If you are any bit mechanicly inclined I would definatly get 2-3 quotes and then have the old owners cut you a check... Then you can pull the heads yourself and get a little more work done on them like the others suggested... For $2600 you should be able to rebuild both heads and put a cam in!
The $2600 was for a full rebuild the valves and heads would have been $700

so i got a 2nd opioion on the motor yesterday and ends up being not a broken valve or bad motor the valve spring just broke!! wow cant believe the 1st mechanic tried to bend me over and rebuild the whole thing. all the valves are good the cylinders walls look good and so do the heads themselves. so im happy ill be driving the truck alot sooner now!!!! cant wait!!!!
I'd beable to do it if the first guy I took it to knew what he was doing.
He took off the intake, head and valve cover on the 1-4 side. So I have no idea where any of the vacuum and other wire/lines go lol.
I don't mind paying a few hundred to get it fixed though. I loved driving it for 5 days lol
