95 F150 w/ 5.0, Automatic. Changed out starter for a rebuilt about 6 months ago. Recently, have been getting grinding noise every 3rd or 4th start. What gives? Ford doesn't need starter shims like my old Chevys did.
Could it be the "Bendix" isn't always disengaging, or should I start thinking about inspecting my Flywheel for damaged teeth? Motor has about 175K and has never been touched. Plan to pull off starter this weekend. Where's the flywheel inspection port on this motor?
An aside - my oil pan is on its way out and had been leaking pretty badly until I did a temporary patch with J-B Weld - starter was well oiled too. Could this have any effect or just a coincidence?
