I dropped alot of oil in the driveway. Mech says high pressure oil pump is gone. Can these be rebuilt, or, do I just replace it? Wow expensive!! what to do?? Any help would be grateful.
What year truck? Unless the back fell off the HPOP, or you got some big hole in the side and the guts fell out, you probably don't need to replace the HPOP to fix your oil leak. Most of the time it's a simple o-ring replacement to fix the problem.
Bob at Dieselorings.com should have the parts you need and instructions on how to fix it. We can offer more assistance if you give us more information.
Well got the pump off this week-end. Found the non servicable plug was loose and o-ring gone , if there was one. Threads look good. Truck has 230,000 miles, do you think putting all new orings will be ok? any need to replace pump? IPR while I have it out? Your thoughts will be appreciated.. thanks
Check out Clay or Bob for parts, I would try new O-rings then maybe test the HPOP with a quality diagnostic tool, if it all checks out leave it, I have 265,000 miles, original HPOP and good pressures here's some info in case you need it. Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines
No reason to replace anything but the o-rings on the loose plug unless you just want to. It will be easier to go ahead and replace all the o-rings, including on the IPR, while the pump is out and just laying there, but it's not required.
So now that we've confirmed it's a simple fix, how much money did the mechanic tell you it would cost to replace the HPOP?
High Pressure Oil Pump, it is what intensifies the fuel pressures using oil in the injectors to do so rather than a high pressure fuel pump, yes there is a common acronym, for the 7.3 atleast that I know of https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...mmon-mods.html I'm sure all the other specific forums have them too.
Let's see if I do the math,
Mech quote $1275
Diesel O rings kit $54
You guys saved me $1221
And it was not that difficult to get off the truck
Think I owe y'all a cold one, or a truck load of cold ones
Thanks again, I'll let you know how it does when I get it back together!
