Ok so I have an 85 F250 Lariat with electric windows. Both windows stopped going up yesterday. The motors turn but the windows don't move. It happened suddenly. Both worked perfectly then my passenger stopped working yesterday and my driver stopped today. Anybody have this problem or know what is causing it? Thanks
That gear that is mentioned by anafiel is prone to breaking.
The only thing I can think of that would cause the motor to still turn or spin, without triggering the breaker.
If the window was stuck, the motor would try to "Roll" up the glass and stall, eventualy triggering the breaker and shut off.
You will need to remove the door panels, and the plastic shield to see what's going on.
I would also use some silicone lubricant on the window rubber strips. It will clean and protect them, and make the window slide in the rubber channel easier.
I forgot to mention that you can get the plastic bushings separate for about $7.00 or so off of the Help! rack. They come as a set of three, which will do one motor.
I had to do both doors and tailgate on my Bronco this year.
Or, you can make bushings yourself out of fuel hose. It is easiest if you have a bushing left so you know what the diameter and length should be, but you can do it without a good bushing - I did. And, while you have the gear box apart you should clean the grease out and repack it.
But, you will have to drill a couple of rivets out to get the mechanism out of the door. Not difficult at all, and when you get things lubed you'll be surprised at how fast and smooth the windows go up/down.

Maybe either if you mean vinyl tubing when you say "plastic". The "bushing" is actually a shock absorber, so you want something with give. But, it also needs to be firm enough to not flex a bunch each time and crack. I used rubber and it works well. Vinyl might work if it has a thick enough wall.
I couldn't tell you the number of times I have used 3 x 1/4" hex nuts inside those window gear drives. No, it isn't the "right" way to repair the problem, but I have never had to do it again......
