depends on the year. The 03' turbos (as I learned from here) are the loudest I believe. A true straight pipe (catalytic converter and muffler cut out and replaced with straight pipe) makes a high pitched whistle that winds up and down in response to how much you're on the accelerator. Cools things off inside too from what I hear. Anyways, I did it and I like it. definatly makes your truck sound more unique imo. Sounds better than a cummins with a stack the size of a 5 gallon bucket

It is illegal to tamper with the exhaust and especially converter. If you "do it" don't be hotdogging around town or in the range of a cop. Its potentially a hefty fine depending on your state. I got mine done for $125 at a exhaust shop near by. Its all depends on how you operate the truck once its modded as to whether or not you will be pulled over. And finally, it won't pass inspection so whoever does the straight pipe, tell em to cut out the muffler and or catalytic converter and replace with a straight pipe connected to the existing pipe by two band clamps, then you'll have the option of changing back and forth for inspection or if you get tired of whistling Dixie.

oh yeah and just youtube search "6.0L straight pipe" for a the sound

I just did mine and it sounds good. It has a big block sound like it has flowmasters on it plus the turbo whistle. Mine definitely sounds more aggressive when towing. It isn't as bad as the cummins straight piped. I like it!!!

It is louder but not too loud that the women will not complain. Definitely helps with egts.

I am 100% happy with my cat and muffler delete pipes, ~$120, ~200* egt drop, and I did not lose as much low end compaired to a bigger exh systems.

The best sound of any diesel engine IMO, especially above 3000 rpms. Mine is getting straight piped the day the warranty is up

IMHO 3.5" downpipe to 4" out the back. Keeps the low end lag down that the 4" downpipes suffer from a little bit.

This is why I chose to get the delete pipes, and the price.

Isn't there more of a drop in EGT with a full 4" pipe though (other than the downpipe)?

I cant say since I have never had a 4" system. I doubt it is worth any $$ going from 3.5" to 4" in search for egt drop on trucks with less than true 500hp
