i have a 99 250 v10 i want to put a stright pipe on it from the y pipe will the check engin light come on? or just go from the cat back and i will have no problem? i know on some cars when u take the cats out u need to get a modual to trick the computer but dont know about the v10s i got a stright pipe on my 03 power stroke but just lookin for some help thanks
I have a 3" straight pipe off the cat on my v-10 right now (prior owner's idea) and wouldn't recommend going down that road. While I didn't buy it for efficiency, 7-8 MPG UNLOADED and driving gently is not alot of fun. I suspect the lack of back pressure may be causing this. I'd like to at least be enjoying the poor mileage if its going to happen. I cannot say that the performance of the truck is even slightly improved in comparison to one which is bone stock.
If someone disagrees as to how an easily driven v-10 with no other modifications and under 20,000 miles could be doing this, PLEASE pass on your ideas.
well i was wondering from the y pipe is i am going to need something to fool the computer? it is going to be my fun truck i have 42s on it lol no gas saver here haha but i will be putting a muffler probley a flowmaster 40s on it but want a stright pipe from y pipe with muffler thanks
the v10 needs the back pressure of the cat and to make it run properly. the fm 40 is ok a 70 if the man is heavy with his writting hand around you as here.
what do u mean by that "the fm 40 is ok a 70 if the man is heavy with his writting hand around you as here."???????
we mean.
the fm 40 is loud but is the baffled muffler and has some back pressure the v10 needs. The fm 70 has a very nice mellow sound that gets louder when you put your foot into the go pedal and dosen't cause the cops to turn around after you and write tickets like they are very good at in our area.
Which is what i mean by heavy with with his writting hand .
have fun man. But please under stand getting a v10 to run correctly and sound just right is not easy and can become very costly. And that jason has a very good hand on tuneing that sound.
so a pair of headers and i dont need a cat or i should get a high flow cat? i want it to sound good and then a 3 inch pipe to a flowmaster ect? that would be good so how about some one help me with a a good set up??
The Factory cat are about as high flow as can be used... yes you can spend money on ones that flow higher but it is a waste of cash.. the factory cat out flows the motor by a good margin if it is not clogged from too rich a mixture for too long
