Emblem question for '66 Slick

My '66 Slick 115" WB has the original 352V8 under the hood but the emblem on the hood is the gear with a lightning bolt thru it. Now I Know the V8 Emblem was on the hood of some V8's of that era but I was wondering since my truck was probably purchased as a base model with not many options, was the V8 emblem an option on the V8 motor F100s for 1966 or was it was standard when the motor option was added. Thoughts?

already posted it ....

at the bottom of the page.

Thinking perhaps it was a replacement hood at some point, either that or if it was oem perhaps the order didn't include the emblem option.

C1TZ-16607-B .. Gear & Lightning Bolt w/5 Stars Front Hood Emblem.

Original applications: All 1961/64 F100/1100's and 1965/66 F100/600 I-6's only.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
C5TZ-16607-A .. V8 w/5 Stars Front Hood Emblem.

Original applications: 1965/66 F100/1100's with V8 engines.

Service part replacement hoods, fenders and etc sheet metal did not come with emblems/mouldings, all sold separately.

No emblem/moulding holes were punched out in these parts, because they fit myriad different series/models.

Some folks like the V8 emblem, some like the Gear and Bolt.
Personal preference..

When i mention replacement hood, I was thinking "junkyard hood". But I was remiss in articulating that. Trying to keep this '66 as it came from the factory so that's the root of my question. If it was an option from the dealer to install a V8 emblem and the original owner opted not to then there's part of the original story that the truck has to offer. Does anyone have a list of dealer installed or factory options when these trucks were new?

What's interesting to me since this truck was so original when I bought it used was that from my research it appeared to be, from the factory, a bare bones truck with minimal to no options. But if that was the case then the interesting part of the story to me was that they didn't option a less expensive engine. Maybe he didn't want his wife to know from looking at it that it had a monster motor under the hood. lol

Bet you would never guess I'm sort of a genealogy buff eh.

Thanks for everyones input!

The V8 hood emblem was standard equipment on all V8 equipped 1965/66 F100/1100's.

Since your '66 F100 352 now has the gear and lightning bolt hood emblem, the hood was replaced by a used hood, prolly due to damage, or just the emblem was replaced.

One of the principle causes for replacing these hoods is, they have a tendency to fly up, which also stretches the hood hinges.

People tend to slam this heavy hood down. Over time, this causes the panel the hood latch attaches to, to become bent downwards.

At speed, once air gets under the hood, the safety catch will not hold it, and VOILA! the hood flies up.

Sometimes, depending on how fast one is driving, the hood will fly up, then flip over backwards...hitting the leading edge of the roof.

I always chain my hood down, and that is mostly for anti-theft purposes, but in the 1970s I had a hood come all the way up to face plant at about 40 mph while a passenger. Hello hood! Fortunately nobody but the hood got hurt.

Mine popped open about an inch going down the interstate the other day. My bad I didn't get it secured but my trusty chain held on tight until I could pull over.

Mine also popped open about an inch once going down the interstate after picking the truck up at the mechanics. Scared the daylights out of me because I knew the chain was off at the time. Its a pain to lock and unlock but I keep my hood chained down all the time.

I also keep my chained down, only I use a made to length cable that drops straight down. I thought about installing the hood pins like I had on a couple cars I used to have but thought it might look a little strange on my 65' truck.

A padlock through the safety catch is also a good hood stopping device and added security.

I used a bicycle cable/padlock on my '65. There was just enough room to open the hood, then use the key to unlock the padlock.

A little bit of hammering and lubing will keep the hood latch working as designed. My first truck popped it's hood to the safety all the time. After talking to other Slick owners, I lubed it up so the parts moved as they were supposed to, whacked the bent places back straight and it works like it should.

The day isn't over but I have never had the hood pop on my current truck if my recaller is working right, because of addressing this shortly after I bought it. PB Blaster works well on the latch and hinges.

I am good with anyone that wants to add a chain, it's a little more than I want to deal with.

There are a couple things that I see in that photo that suggest a repaint.

So....one possibility could be that if and when the paint was done, the original emblem may have looked bad, etc and they had a gear emblem accessible to them, that was in better shape and added it at that time.
