I have a 1999 F150 Reg Cab long box 4.6 V8 Auto I am having trouble with the Ac unit. I had the system evaced. last fall and recharged. this spring I went to use the AC and it would not kick in. I had the charge checked out and it was OK still will not kick in. It did kick in for a in yesterday and blew cold. but would not kick in after I turned it off and back on. Where do I start???
check wires on the compressor to see that they are tight. push on the clutch to see if it will engage, maybe the air gap is too big ? There is a low pressure switch that might be failed open and not make contact. jumper it to see if compressor starts.
if you own a volt meter , unplug the single wire going to your compressor and check to see if you have 12v to ground or to neg battery terminal when you turn it on, key on without starting it should do, if you have 12volts dc going to the compressor then its right there in your clutch. if not work backward, you can jump the low pressure switch that is usually found on the accumulator tank close to the firewall with a paperclip in the plug for a minute. back up and check to see if you have a blown fuse or under rated at the panel too.
