Here is a question that hopefully some one can help me answer. Just here recently, the MAX setting on my a/c is not acting as it should. With the setting in the max mode, there is no change in fan performance. I know the fan is not supposed to blow harder, but more freely since you are not pressurizing the cab. There is absolutely no difference on my truck between the normal a/c setting and Max. However, periodically, you can hear a change in the performance. Like the Max setting is kicking in then kicking out. As far as when it kicks in, it only lasts like a second or two, then kicks back out again. It will do this every few minutes, but nothing regular. This may seem like whining, but, with this Texas heat, the Max setting is very beneficial. If there is anyone that could help me out with this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I just recently charged my a/c. Also, when I was under the hood with the truck running, i swear I can hear a vacuum leak. I have checked all the vacuum lines that I know about, but can't find any leaks.
Look under the hood by the heater box. There is a small plastic line that is famous for cracking. If it is broke, the fresh air vent door will stay open pulling in hot outside air
OR the actuator itself could be leaking. If the ac is on max with the engine running, it should be pulled in, if not, the vent is open. Could also be weak vacuum pump, but you would feel that in the breaks
When the actuator activates, it is really slow to close. Also, as I said, it sounds like there is a vacuum leak under the hood, I am just unable to locate it. I know all about the vacuum pump going bad, it has happened twice to me.
The dragon knows, most of the time its the line on the passenger side corner under the hood. I've sliced mine a few times and the piece of junk plastic vacuum line is falling apart. What's left of it I gooped it all around. Works good now!
Last time mine split, I connected it back together with a piece of vacuum line and 2 zip ties. Also wired the vent door closed, no need for it down here. By the way... Howdy Glenn
i just threw a ziptie on my actuator since that hose is beyong toast and it works great, and in winter, i just cut the zip tie so my defrost will work (defrost works better not on recirc)
Howdy George! I last time I touched the vac line it started to literally fall apart. I had already spliced it a couple of times. Goop is the most important tool in the tool box, LOL.
Off topic, but does a little hot water circ through our heat cores during the summer when we don't want it?
Yes but the blend door doesn't circulate air through the heater core. BTW, I wouldn't suggest installing a valve or clamping off the water lines to the heater core as the water pump uses that as a bypass path when the t-stat is closed.
you can install a heatercore bypass valve it is for ford rangers it allows the normal operation of the coolant goin thru the valve instead of the core so it stays cool but the coolant is still flowing unrestricted. i have one it works great so does dzl jim
