It funny you should mention the tire pressure. We do have one front tire that has to be constantly checked. I wonder if that coupled with the worn out atf fluid is the problem!! That would also explain why it comes and goes. We will pay closer attention to whether or not it does it when the tire is filled properly.
i am new to all of this transfer case stuff, but i have done a lot of research on this site. ok i have a 97 explorer about 2 weeks after i bought it i had the whining noise and then the truck just stopped going and only whined. a man walked up to me and said it was tc. told me to put it in 4wdl and i could make it home. so i did slowly!! This is my only vehicle so i started her up the next day and she drove fine for 2 days, and it did the same thing so iput it in 4wdl again and got the truck home, when i put it in 4wdl i could hear it switch from drive to 4wdl but the next day when i went out ...the truck would not go at all so itried to put it in 4wdl again just to see if it would go and i never heard it switch again and when i put it in park it made a whining noise so i think it is stuck in 4wdl.. now the truck will not go in drive or in 4wdl. it just sits there. so i pulled the brown plug under the driver seat, i thought it was worth a shot...and now it will not even start...could someone please give me some advice on this situation...i definatly want to get around paying 2200 for a tc if possible....i paid less than that for the truck itself.....HELP
