Torn Hamstring

Has anyone ever had this injury.I tore mine about 10 weeks ago. Its still not healed. I didn't go to the doctor until about 4 weeks after I injured it. I missed a step on my front steps. I had my little dog in my arms & couldn't grab the handrail. It is still about as bad as when I hurt it. I hope to start PT next week. I guess it takes longer to heal when you get old.

My son tore his completely and had to have it repaired surgically and a lot of therapy. It happened a year ago January and was told it would take a year before he could return to soccer. His leg is still weak but things are coming along well, back to his sports now. Follow the advice you get and don't force it. He is 42.

I've been off work 7 months. Being a truck driver, I probably won't be back for another 3 months. Therapy is a big help, plus there are exuresizes to do in the pool to make it heal faster.

I have not had the pleasure of the hamstring injury. I did tear my ACL in half, fractured my fibula or tibula, and tore the meniscus in my knee back in November. I quit therapy after the third session. The doctor saw me a few days later and told me that if I had any issues to see him right away and he would do surgery.

If I did not know the damage they said I have, I would tell you that I am 98 percent healed now. I climb ladders and stairs all day and walk high pitch roofs with no problems. The only tender spot is if I kneel with my weight on the knee. It has even stopped clicking.

Man I climbed a ladder for 4 hours 8 weeks after I hurt mine. It made my knee lockup & hurt as bad as it did when I injured it. I don't get this thing. I can stand with little pain. If I lay down to sleep I can't get it to quit hurting. I fall asleep with a ice pack on it most nights. I get very little sleep. I worked on it again last Friday. I installed a door threshold & 6 pieces of floor tile. Its been stiff again ever since. I'm going nuts sitting home trying to heal. I didn't know this would take so long to heal. My doctor said it would be a long recovery time. I hoped he meant a few weeks instead of months. Oh Well. It could be worse.

I think I missed work for one whole week. My boss let me come in for 18 hours a week for the next two weeks. That way I could make enough to pay for my insurance and supplemental insurance without being in debt when I came back full time. AFLAC was great to have.

The doctor told me that I should not immobilize my leg and told me to work on my full range of movement. I recently bought a bike to help keep my leg limber. The first day almost killed me, but now I can cover a pretty good distance, just not very fast. I think I am going to make an oversize load sign for the back of my seat. Those real bikers in the spandex almost run me over up on the levee.

I'll know more next week after I start PT. I have great faith in PT. Its worked great for me before. Once I have the correct exercises,I'll get my strength back. I can do light work for now. I inspect windows & doors for United Tech Service. I can take photos & do light repairs for them till I'm able to go back to my home repair business. I might start delivering pizza to help with the bills. I'll beat this thing. I should have known it was bad when I saw my leg turn black & blue from below my knee to about 10 inches above the knee. I'm hard headed & didn't go to the doctor when it happened. I'm paying for that mistake.

Good luck to you and hope you get right soon.

I pay about 50 bucks a week to AFLAC for all of their coverage except for cancer for my wife and I. It has been very handy. They gave me almost 1,000 bucks for my time out of work plus re imbursed some of the co pays for the doctor visits. They did not pay for the therapy though. If I have surgery then they will. It is also good for a free eye exam and glasses plus a free dental cleaning every year.

I'm self employed. I have medical through my wifes work. I don't know if AFLAC would cover my one man company. I'll get by since my bills are few.

i tore the right hammy 4 years ago, it took almost 2 years to completely heal.
i tore the left acl back in january, and it is still just as bad if not worse than when it first happened. i finally got a hinged brace last week, and it is starting to help.

getting old sucks.

Its been over 3 months for me. My leg is not any better today than it was when I injured it. If I make a misstep or walk too much it locks up. I don't even try to climb a ladder anymore. I painted 4 hours on a 4 ft ladder . Thats only 2 steps up. It put my to hurting as bad as ever. I know the PT will build my strength back. I really don't know if I'm healed enough for it yet. When I saw my doctor last I had been off my feet for 10 days. I had little pain.He set up the PT on how I felt that day. I did the painting 2 days later. I need to see him again before I start PT.
