My 1992 has an E4OD that is the original. The truck has 373000 kilometers on it and all that has ever been done to the tranny is regular fluid and filter changes and a cooler was added in about 7 years ago. It has towed all of its like.
It is the only thing that I haven't done or rebuilt on my truck and it is now starting to show its age. I rebuilt the 351 2 years ago and now it is the trannies turn.
Does anyone know where I can get very clear and consise work intructions on rebuilding one of these things? I know that I will want to do the up-dates that were made over the years. I am very mechanically inclined and do have access to people who do this for a living if I get into trouble but I would like to try it myself.
Any help or advice would be appreciated and a good source of work instruction.
Thanks for your help. This forum is an awesome source of information and people.
Thanks guys. I will be sure to get a manual before I start and Subford, that photo step by step is excellent. After viewing that I have answered a lot of my questions and concerns.
I need some help! My trans (E4OD) in my 93 F250 7.3 diesel 4X4 took a dump last year, i have gotten all the parts replaced new clutches steels every thing. the problem is when i put the front pump assm. on and torque it down to specs it seizes up won't turn at all. anyone have any idea to help.
My guess would be that one of the clutch plates is out of position. With no gasket on it you should be able to slide the pump in flush with the case so that when the gasket goes on it will tighten down without anything binding.
Maybe try posting on the transmission page for one of the trans experts.
I actually ended up with two copies of the Ford manual, one was listed as a repair manual and the other as a diagnostic manual. If someone wants the extra just pay for shipping.
Those manuals are for a few years each.
What is the year coverage on the manuals you have.
A lot of those manuals have the hydraulic diagrams removed from the front.
And some are missing the theory of operation.
