Inline 240, 66 F100, Carb perculating!!!!
Hello all,
Long time no post for me. Hope all are well. Got an issue that sprung up after 5 years of owning my 66 F100.
It is summer here in Music City, TN and it gets hot. I just had a spacer made for my carb and I am still perculating (almost to vapor lock) at stop lights or going over speed bumps at slow speeds. Anyone else ever had the same problem? And if so what did you do?
I tried wood close pins on the steel fuel line, replaced the steel fuel line with rubber gas line, this year added an aluminum 1/4" spacer and I still have no luck with stalling or the truck wanting to shut off.
When it is cool or cold out truck runs like a champ. no spudder no stalls nothing. All in the same places the truck would stall or spudder in the summer.
I am thinking or adding a hose to the oil bath beather to the radiator support to grab some cool air??? or replacing that with an air filter type and runnning the hose in the same manner. Any suggestions? My truck is a daily driver and I am about to add air conditioning so I can use any help. Thanks Phillip

Check the heat riser diverter on the exhaust manifold. Its probably stuck open.....
Or, its just really hot!! My 1101 and Carter YF both will percolate when its over 100 degrees. Kind of nasty!!!
It did that in 65 too, according to dad. Damn thing would vapor lock in the heat of summer from day ONE!!

hmm...i can't find one for a 1bbl carb.
here's one that would be heated/cooled by the coolant flow.

i haven't done it myself (yet), but a lot of people run coolant to the bottom of the intake manifold after converting to the EFI exhaust manifolds (since they have no heat riser).

Thanks for the tip. I am still wondering if I can cool it with air directly to the oil bath...
