new challenges
Diffrent subject: rough idle , seems to stumble. The carb does not have a spacer plate with a vaccum port, No vaccum going from carb to the intake, Vaccum goes directly into the intake from valve cover. So it looks like this, pvc into valve cover. hose from pvc going into 3 way adaptor, power brake hose into same adaptor, auto tranny line going into same adaptor. All going into manifold right next to valve cover. When I plug the pvc valve the motor smooths out and she idles much better. Do I need to get a carb spacer plate with a vaccum port and run directly to the manifoldcover as a stand alone vaccum for the carb. Any info would be most helpful. Thank you Mike
PCV should go from VC valve to base of carb or plate below to burn any fumes/gases from inside.
Vaccum is generated in the intake not the valve cover.
Seems a better design is needed on your engine.
John
I will get a ported plate and install it. will that smooth the idle? I also found out today that I have an oil leak in the front of the intake manifold where it meets the block, look like i need to change the intake gasket. Do you think this will help with the low pressure at idle. She seem to run well overall. I crawled under and looked at the tranny where the linkage connects there seem to be two arms, but only 1 is connected to the linkage, do you know what the other is for. Poss a down shift fo a passing gear.
Thanks again John.
Sounds like someone has do a lot of modding to your truck. There are several others here much better suited for tune up advice. Timing, timing chain wear, carb needing rebuild or replacing, vacuum all can come into the picture here. Hopefully better offerings are on the way.
The oil pressure concern is at the worn crank bearings allowing more oil to pass through there with reduced back pressure. The engine sounds well worn, move low pressure off the shelf it will run like that for a while. Oil mods can be done at rebuild time.
Don't know how bad the intake is leaking (FEs are bad for that) you need to put that in a larger project bowl. Do you have a 2 or 4 barrel carb? The truck came with a 2 barrel.
Can you get a photo in your gallery of what it looks like now?
John
Yes it is a 4 barrel looks like it was switched out. At this point iam not sure if this is the orig motor or if the entire motor has been switched. It has a few odd things, not sure how to tell. The numbers on the intake indicate a car not a truck. The tag on the block indicates a truck.
yes I can put pics up this weekend. The oil leak is more then I like would to see.
Again thanks for the advice.
