Actually I have. Unfortunately, you have to become a part of the minority that actually gets a custom tuner to detune the truck.

However, in all honesty, I can ruin a vehicle with any tune, so they aren't idiot proof really, some have a higher level of tolerance than others though.

Some have gotten by with custom tunes and haven't yet to do studs, but whenever you do something like this you are putting more wear and tear on parts and things will wear out faster this way, how long just depends on how much you abuse it.

I'm not saying that hauling in of itself is abuse, that's what these things are made for, but the 6.0 likes to be warmed up before it's put through the wringer. Think of it like stretching before (and after) a workout. If we don't stretch before (or after) we work out (especially when we get older) we ache at bare min. Well with the 6.0, it's "aching" is stretched bolts.

Also, abuse would be not doing it's scheduled upkeep and using suggested consumables.

I'm sure it's not quite the "abuse" that you had in mind and might actually seem like common sense to most of us on here, but the 6.0 demands more from it's owners than diesels that came before it. Some don't like that or don't believe that and it bites them in the *** more times than not.

You would think, but nowadays you can't assume anything.

Of course, if you go by the stock ECT gauge, you would think that you were up to operating temp, when you really weren't, so even if people were conscious of it, they still may not be doing as good as they thought.

Well I'm glad I'm putting my gauges on soon. I baby my truck as much as possible. Every now and then I'll give it some WOT to clean the carbon out but I'm really big on letting everything warm up before going nuts.

My '05 F-350 is stock except for the egr delete. I want to put a 4" turbo back on. I would like to do this without a tune. Does the new exhaust need to be tuned?

A buddy of mine has been running a tuner on a bone stock 6.0 for 6 years now. No blown head gaskets. Sound like its a 50/50 gamble.
