Anybody know of a good deal on a set of torch bottles? I need to do some cutting but I don't have bottles to go with my torch. Is it better to lease bottles or buy them outright?

I have a buddy that looked into leasing an argon bottle a couple of years ago when he first got his welder. Seems like there's a monthly fee you have to pay until you return the bottle...which would pay for one in short order. Going off the top of my head, I think he said if he keep the bottom for a year...the lease fees would have paid for one outright. Oxy & Acy might be different..but you'd get them at the same place.

That used to be true, but a few years ago the price of the bottles went through the roof. I think the argon bottle I bought last year was $285 and if I remember right, they said oxy bottles are around $400 now. I bought all of the bottles for my torches years ago when they were around $150 each

Since I don't own/lease bottles...if you own your own bottle, do they refill it and send it back to you? Or do you "trade it in" for a full one when your bottle is empty? If it's the later, I assume your just paying for the product (plus taxes) and not some kind of bottle fee? I've often wondered how that industry functions...in their day do day as far as how/where they refill bottles.
It's one of the things I'm going to spend my time studding after I retire early because I hit the big one ($250 million) in the PowerBall.

When you ''buy'' a bottle, it is really a lifetime lease. I've seen folks argue and want "their" bottles filled, but it doesn't work that way. Trading for a full one is the way to go, or you would be waiting for a few days because few of the supply places actually fill bottles.
Another thing, if you buy bottles from a private party, make sure you get their paperwork. If you can't show paperwork where someone bought the bottles, they are pretty much scrap iron.
Evening gentlemen, one more day and I get to head home for a couple of days.

Or shop rockets Oh wait, I'm not supposed to talk about that any more.
Morning gentlemen. Had a nice couple of thunderstorms roll through here in the night. Nothing like a little be of rain on the rood and light thunder to really relax a guy.

Not personally, but I've seen enough carnage via safety films at a former employer and "Mythbusters" to know that the cap needs to be on there if it's not chained to something.
