Installed 05-07 Dash into Excursion

I just installed a 07 King Ranch Dash into my 2001 Excursion. And I figured I’d try and write a How To Install Instructions for 99-05 Excursion. This install isn’t straight bolt in, some cutting is required and wiring. I take no responsibility if you mess up your truck. This is my first How To write up so bare with me if I make some mistakes along the way. I wrote this for Excursions but I’m sure it’s basically the same thing for F250 and 350 trucks. Any questions feel free to ask; I’ll try and answer them to the best of my ability. Here’s a picture of the new dash installed. It’s like driving a new truck and looks awesome too.

Parts Needed
- 05-07 Dash
- 05-07 Headlight Switch
- 05-07 4x4 Panel with Back up sensor (If EX is equipped)
- 05-07 Power Outlet
- 05-07 Dash Control Switch (Not used other then filling the hole in the Dash)
- 2000 Crown Victoria Defroster switch and connector (If Ex is equipped)
- New Radio old one won’t fit
- 2008+ Radio bezel (I bought the 05-07 bezel but didn’t fit the dash right)

First take the old dash out by pulling the factory radio and taking the two screws out in the radio area. Next, pop the dash out by pulling the dash straight out. Once its popped out you can disconnect the switches to the headlight switch, 4x4 switch, Rear Defroster, and Power Outlet. Now unscrew the 4 screws hold in the heater controller and disconnect the connectors on the back. Now is time to cut the dash. You can see in my picture how I cut my dash out. The cutting is needed because the 05-07 moved the radio and heater controls towards the passenger side.

If your Excursion is equipped with a Rear defroster (I think they all are but not sure). You need to extend the wires to next to the headlight switch. The wiring diagram to hook up the 2000 Crown Victoria Defroster Switch to the Excursion wiring is below. If your Ex is equipped with adjustable pedal I really don’t know what you have to do since my truck didn’t have adjustable pedals.

Just pop the **** off and unscrew the two screws on the back of the panel. With the switch out, you need to take a razor and cut the little nub on the switch off so it will work with the new 05-07 dash. (See picture of nub that needs to be cut). Do the same with the new dash except install the old EX 4x4 switch in the new dash and use the new 05-07 ****.

The parking light, headlight and power outlet connectors should plug right into the new dash with no problem at least it did for me. Now take the Ex’s climate control panel and bolt it to the new dash. The driver side vent above the headlight switch and the far passenger vent above the power outlet needs to be trimmed a little as seen in the pictures below. I put some weather strip on the vents because they are little bigger than the original ones, I figured to help seal them up. You can see what I cut and where I put the weather stripping in the pictures below. I got the weather stripping from the hardware store.

Now for the Radio. I took the one screw out of each vent on the passenger side and screwed the radio bezel with radio installed in those two vent holes. I also added a brace on the back to hold the radio in place and to keep it (Sorry didn’t take pictures of this).

I installed a 05-07 Lower Dash with Cubby and Upfitter while I had the dash apart but don’t know if you need to or not. I had to install some of the old Ex clips from the original dash because some of the plastic clips on the new dash won’t hold but the Ex’s metal clips held with no problem. Now you should be able to install the new 05-07 dash into your EX. Now test to make your all the switch work, just in case you forgot to plug one or two in.

I got most of the parts off of eBay and the headlight switch off of Rock Auto. Took me a while to gather all of the parts.

That looks great. One more thing to add to my "to do" list of parts to start collecting. Is your Ex a diesel? It would look great with the F0650 dash mod if it was.
