Does anyone know of a way to disable the theft system on a 99 Ranger.
I have disconnected the horn, but the system still goes off almost daily flashing the lights and all! Getting kind of ridiculous as I can not find a way to dis arm the system.
It can be programed out. Lots doing the Explorer 5.0L swap do this. I know one guy out in CO who does it and also can remove the speed limiter. Another one down in N. IL did it with a handheld scanner, don't remember which brand right now.

The truck will be just sitting in the yard, keys laying on the seat and middle of the day the horn and lights start going off. Have to hit the remote button to stop the annoyance. Thus I unplugged the horn, now just have to keep an eye out for the lights.
Have you ever had any "door ajar" issues? Sometimes the switches inside the door(s) get mucked up with dirt and grime and don't function properly. A flaky door switch can cause the PATS system to act weird.
Low FOB battery voltage can cause it to act out. So if it hasn't been replaced in years, it may be time for a new one.
One of my then new, 99 Rangers FOB's began to act out, randomaly beeping the horn, or cycling the door locks as we drove. Reprogramming the FOB, keys, computer & new FOB battery didn't fix it, Dealer finally replaced the FOB, problem fixed. It had gotten wet sometime before the problems began & that probably led to it's demise. So if yours has gotten wet lately, try removing the battery & drying the FOB out at something like 120F overnight, reinstall the battery & see what happens.
Make sure the vehicle battery charge is up to snuff & the battery to engine & body ground connections are clean bright & tight.
