How does one disconnect the throttle cable from the gas pedal (none power) on a 2002 Ford F150?

I am attempting to retrofit my truck with power pedals (all the wiring is there, so it must be possible), however before I do so I need to know how to disconnect the throttle cable from the gas pedal.

It seems that there is a little plastic collar that is inserted into the top of the pedal arm that retains the throttle cable in place. This collar does not allow the cable to slip through the groove on the top of the pedal arm for removal. This collar rotates, so I know that it's some sort of pressure fitting and not part of the pedal arm. I believe it is a component of the throttle cable, so I don't want it damage it by utilizing brute force. I have tried grasping it with a pair of needle nose pliers and it won't budge.

Very tight working environment.

Any suggestions on how to remove? I really don't want to have to get another throttle cable from the auto wreckers.

 

I think you have to pry the plastic bushing out, but it probably won't come out without a fight.
