I am trying to remove my dash to fix my a/c cable. does anyone know how to remove the head light **** and wiper ***** with out breaking them. Also if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix the cable on the heater AC control in the dash. Please feel free to speak up.
I use a cotter pin puller, its shaped like a 7 and hook it behind the ****. Theres a spring there that you need to push on as you pull on the ****. Good luck.
Reach up under the dash and feel for a small button on the bottom of the headlight switch. You press it as you're pulling the headlight switch out, and the **** and shaft come out as one piece. To remove the wiper ****, you use billt28's method.

On some years (I think it's the Haynes manual that mentions it) the switches were up the other way, with the button on top.......mine, also 83, is like this.
It's not the most comfortable of jobs anyway, but especially if you're hunting in the wrong place for the button.
There is a notch on the front (nearest the dash panel) of the wiper **** - that is where you need to pull back on the spring clip to release it from the shaft.
Thanks guys that worked great. But do you have any suggestions how to get the climate control unit from out of the dash so I can replace the temperature cable? So I can go from hot to cold air.
Does any one know where I can get a new cable for the climate control unit. Its getting summer and I need it go from hot to cold? no parts store in my area carries it.
