How to remove choke knob on '60 F100
#3
yes the **** itself does not come off.
you must remove the cable assembly complete right from the carb back thru the firewall.
the nut on the back is i believe either a 5/8 or 11/16 and the actual **** assembly should be in a "D" shaped hole which should prevent the whole assembly from turning when the nut is being turned.

Here's a link where this was batted around before. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...n-my-59-a.html
If I remember correctly, the choke shaft inside the **** is knurled. I had to dissect my old one to install the new screw clamp type. A lot of effort to just change a **** but isn't that exactly the kind of thing we do with Fridges?
