I bought a Banks Ottomind, an aFe Cold Air Intake and a Borla "filter back" stainless steel exhaust.
I installed the three of them. aFe first, then the Borla and finally, the Banks.
Mileage decreased with the aFe the next day after installation. The Borla and Banks made no difference. The aFe is causing a 2002 code "Diesel particulate filter not operating at peak efficiency" or something similar to that.
Yes, I was going by the LOM when calculating mileage before and after the aFe but mileage aside, codes cannot be a good sign.
What benefit does an aFe provide? I can't remove the DPF, even if I wanted to because I will need to pass inspection and emissions and the vehicle is still under warranty.
I thought many of you guys swore by aFe. What's the deal?
lots of reports of P2002 and P2004 codes with aftermarket filter boxes. and they aren't cheap.
I am using the stock one, modified to remove the inner shell (allow more air), but can still suck in the filter minder (meaning not enough airflow available) with an aFE dropin filter.
I run the banks ram air. No benefit for MPG's...but no codes either. I got it because of the 6-gun.
truely I think the stock one is just fine unless you are running higher tunes.
since you just got it could you get your money back?
Good question. I doubt if I could get my money back. Had I known the aFe provided no mileage increase (contrary to their claims) and triggered codes, I would never have spent the $350 for the unit.
Customer service is non-existent at aFe. Try them, I did.
Anyone want to buy a used aFe with about 2,000 miles on it? $250.
