Exclamation ATT: All AFE Owners

So my new 6.4L has just over 7k miles on it. At about 2k miles I purchased the Pro Guard 7 intake from AFE hearing nothing but top quality about their products. After I installed the filter, a few days later I though a CEL..... P0401 Insufficient airflow/ defective EGR valve. I erased the code to see if it was a fluke thing, and sure enough it was not and the code returned. I called AFE and they said in the middle of the production Ford made some minor changes to the factory intake system which have affected their product on some of the new 08 6.4L. I waited a month or so and they sent me the new re-designed intake tube. The install was an absolute nightmare and took 3 of us to allow the facotry intake hose to slip over the new plastic AFE intake tube. Here we are 143 miles after install and i just threw another CEL......P2002 Particulate trap efficency below threshhold Bank 1, and..... B1204 Diesel Paticulate filter pressure to low.

I have had it with this product and am returning the truck to stock. AFE has been great with the customer serivce, but their product is just not for this truck. Has anyone else here with the new 6.4L had any issues? I am open to any and all suggestions for a solution, thanks!

I don't know if its my intake or what but my truck is blowing white smoke during regen. It happened two days ago and then again today. I know that is not normal. I can also hear like a flutter/shuttering sound. I'm guessing its the intake. These new 6.4s are a pain in the a**.

Don't drive a diesel, but the 6.4s are horrible, PSD should have stayed with the 7.3

It's funny you say that because one of the tech guys I talked to mentioned another customer who is using their intake system with the same issue.

Hello Nick,
We are trying to resolve these issues with this 6.4L! Its almost 1 out of few trucks have this problem. Has your 6.4L had the updated Re-flash? What is the production date?

The updated tube that we sent out works on almost all of these 6.4L's that have this issue. Thank You for being patient and we will take care of this as fast as we can and send you the correct tube or kit needed!

please enlighten us as to where you get your info from? my 6.0 is head and shoulders above what my fathers 7.3 was, now once a few quirks are worked out with the 6.4 it will probably turn out to be the same over the 6.0

Build date on mine is 02/07 and the stock intake looks to be all hard plastic.

Why is the Intake causing codes to come up that have to do with the exhaust.

I have heard good things about Afe, but are we just paying Gini pigs with our $50,000.00 trucks for you to figure it out? Wheres the R&D for these products? Sorry but im a little agatated at this point.

The 7.3 was one of the best motors ford ever used. Those motors could run for ever. The 6.0 came no where near to matching it. The 6.4 has potential.

"Don't drive a diesel"

I think that says it all. Wouldn't Ford have stayed with the tried and true 7.3 if there was anyway to make it meet the new emissions standards. They didn't go out looking for a new motor they set out to meet the new rules the government set for them.

My afe is working great. No codes. I have a Flashpaq and haven't had to clear \any codes. Noticable power increase, but the wistle sound sucks. It doesn't sound like i cool diesel turbo intake, it's more like my grandpa's nose wistling when he takes a nap.

So there is something AFE can do to help prevent the thrown codes and white smoke?

Most everyone says that white smoke during generation is very common. The trouble codes are a differnt story (maybe). We're waiting on a response from AFE to see what the outcome is. They made two different kinds of intakes for the 6.4. I've tried them both with the same results (egr and exhaust codes). We'll see what they come up with and post it here.
