Some may remember I was having problems getting Sync to run a Vehicle Health Report. It ran exactly 1 report a week after I got the truck and nothing since. I still cannot run a report. Based on what I am reading on the internet, pulling the fuse and/or battery cable resets the Sync (as well as the truck) and appears to correct most people's issue.
I am leaving for a trip this week and am thinking about pulling the battery cable since I am also still experiencing the shifting issues (haven't gotten it to a dealer yet) as well.
If I do this hard reset, will I be creating issues for myself? And if I do it, what is the best way to ensure complete shutdown? Will pulling the positive cables be enough?
Not sure what it will do for Sync, but I did the battery pull to reset the transmission learning process. I disconnected both batteries and left it overnight (wasn't sure how long it needed to reset for the transmission). No problems at all when reconnecting other than I had to reprogram my radio / satelite stations and reset my dash screen to "memory mode." Other than that no issues at all. If you are doing the battery pull to do it, just know that it will most likely reset your transmission learning process as well.
As I understand the process, in order to completely drain any residual power in the system, you should unhook the terminals from each battery and then hook the pos cable to the neg cable to drain all capaciters. I wouldn't hook the cables together until both batteries were completely unhooked. Use caution so that the hooked together cables can't touch either of the battery terminals. I don' know if there is a time factor involved or not. Basically, it is similar to rebooting your computer. Interrupt the power, then restore it. Therefore, rebooting your truck computer, and resetting it to default settings.
Thanks for the inputs. I think I will pull the fuse on the Nav first and let the battery cable pull wait until I am not under some time constraints for this trip (to attend a funeral). Although I would love to have the truck learn on this 1200 mile trip...
All you need to do is disconnect the batteries and turn on the headlights for a while. The closed circuit of the headlights will drain down any residual power throughout the truck.
