I think on the EFI you do, but I'm not sure. I know, even with EFI exhaust manifolds, I don't have to remove it on my carb'd motor, but I seem to recollect removing it when acquiring the manifolds from the junk yard.
If you do, it's not too hard. Just remove the belt, and then there should be three bolts holding the bracket to the block.
I got it. Yes I had to remove it. my major leak was coming from my egr tube on the back manifold. I really wanted to get it all finished tonight, but I ran out of daylight.
When I am done, I will have all new gaskets and should be good to go. I hope
UPDATE: I got the mainfolds (exhaust and lower intake), valve cover gasket, alternator bracket, air pump, alternator, fuel rail, wiring harness, about half of the vacuum lines, new belt, air dick (part that blows on the injectors) all done today.
I have to fix a few vacuum lines that I broke and put the upper intake on and replumb the stupid valve body on top of the alternator and hook up the egr and I should be back on the road....
