Fuel Filters??? Location?

good day all,

I have an 04 250 and am having trouble finding the primary fuel filter... from what I can find online, one person says its under the drivers side frame rail, another says its on top of the motor... but I cannot find it..

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Pictures? etc?

Thanks

Brook

The 04 (6.0 PSD) has two. One on top of the engine and one on the frame rail. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

The top of the engine is right by the air intake tubing near the turbo.

The one on the frame rail:

The one under the frame rail is primary. Under the hood is the secondary. Be prepared for a mess if you aren't careful changing the frame mounted one

thanks for the info... and warning... any suggestions on how to "minimize" the possibilities of a diesel bath?

Just make sure to use Motocraft/Racor/IH filters. Something about the patent that differentiates these from others. I get mine from my local International Dealer saves a few bucks (like 20 or 30) over getting the Motocraft ones from my local ford dealer. A lot of folks here get them from DieselFiltersOnline website. Here's links to the filter change postings in the 6.0 tech folder:

And a nice pictoral guide:

main fuel filter

i just finished doing mine for the 5th time in 200,000 thou last week.it's a messy job so have some drip buckets and rags ready.i recomend that you pull the whole fiter assembly off the frame rail if you have never cleaned the the manifold out and clean the water in fuel contacts also get rid of that pot metal 6mm drain plug and get the one with the knurled head.if it's a 4x4 pull the front driveshaft for easier working conditions.
