Hey just as the title says I can't find the fuel filter on my 1988 ford f250 302 single cab long box i can't see it on the frame rail where else would it be?
I have an 88 F-150. It seems like it is inside the frame rail about right under where the driver sits. Otherwise try to follow the fuel line from the tank(s).
I recently bought a an '88 f150 4x4 auto and am having the same problem. I have traced the lines from one end to the other and cannot find a filter. I can find the HP fuel pump and the selector valve but other than that there is nothing inline. I have read that some of the fuel reservoirs have a small filter but it sounds like that was discontinued prior to 88 and have a hard time believing that would be the only one in line. (Mine looks like the one in the picture but hate to pull it apart if there isn't a filter in it and cause more problems).
Now that I have my snowplow attached and the snow is flying it decided to die off . From what I have read here it sounds like a plugged filter which I can't locate. I really hate to haul it 50 miles to a shop just because of a darn filter.
Any where else it could possibly be?

if you say that yours looks like the picture and there's nothing else then what are you waiting for get it pulled apart and change it out !
worse case you could splice the fuel lines and bypass the selector valve
IF you have that fuel selector valve thing, the bottom has flat sides on it and it unscrews like a float/sedimentation bowl with a filter in there is is NOT on any parts list or parts stores in the real world that I could find.
I thin we used an oil filter wrench to get it off, and then threw the filter just as far as we could.
Thought about it for a minute, and went out looking for it to match up and some future date IF we actually wanted to.
I'd say over a year of headaches and at least 5 different shops.
Fuel pressure checked out perfect many times, just wimpy flow, missing bucking etc etc MOST annoying!

Thanks I may have to do just that, I just crawled under it and checked it out a little closer with more light and less snow and the cup is somewhat different. On the cup itself it states DO NOT REMOVE the rest of the writing I can't make out so I'm not sure and like I said I don't want to add to the problems. Appreciate the reply

wow, I don't remember the 'do not remove'.
If it is the fuel selector, it's funny to start with.
The pump you choose pressurizes a really cool looking piston that moves so fuel can flow. NO electrical connection even tho you use the tank selector switch to change tanks.
Keep in mind that they supposedly ended this arrangement in 86.
But if yours looks like subfords picture, man, I don't know but I definitely feel your pain.

I really appreciate the reply. I will try and get it unscrewed and go from there, always good to hear from somebody thats dealt with this crap along the way.
