10w30 should be fine. Don`t skimp on the filter, get a Motorcraft if you can.

I actually went with Mobil 1 10w30 in my '94 with 5.0. It seems to work fine, although I'm not sure if it's worth the expense. My truck does not see much severe service. Actually, it sees none at all. I might go back to regular high quality 10w30.

Welcome to the Knights of the round table and join us in our search for the Holy Grail of better MPGs . But beware! be not immatire like Percival. Thou canst only achieve the lofty goal if you prepare yourself like the saintly Galahad.

All kidding aside, there are lots and lots of advise and wise council in these and other forums to aid you in your quest. I too have labored long and hard and studied many tomes and have received wise words from the gurus and high priests, but alas, the Grail eludes me yet! I just replaced the O2 sensor in hopes of making all the other things I've done work as expected... We'll see what happens after a run through $50 worth of liquid gold and see if my MPGs have improved. I'll let you know

Just get standard Motorcraft copper plugs. None of those fancy plugs are needed for our last generation of "Real" work trucks! Depending on your mechanical knowledge, you can try to advance your timing around 12 or 14 degrees from 10 degrees BTDC. Be sure your Cap, Rotor, Wires are good quality. Don't forget about some Dielectric grease on the contacts as well! You can open the gap a bit more. You will have to have patience in doing so. To much advance and you'll ping under heavy to moderate load, depending on how well the engine has been maintained. I run mine @ 14, but I've heard of a few who couldn't go past 10.

I advise using SeaFoam in the gas, crank, and run some through the Brake Booster line before doing the oil change. Do a search here on FTE for "Seafoam" and you will get the low down on how WELL it works. This can also help to break loose any trash/carbon build up.

Hope this helps.

timbersteel is rt. I opened mine to .045 and advanced my timing to 13*. She's running great. Like the others said, there's alot of great info on this site. Guys who know they're s***. However i did put motorcraft plats in. They're web site said suitable for my year, same heat range( asf32-p). Trucks running awesome. Had trouble getting distibutor to turn though. 17 years of corrosion. Guys here said try dry ice. Sure as s*** it worked. I put a k&n oem filter also. I run mobil 1 5w30 always, been using it in all my vehicles for 23 years. Don't mind paying little more for some peace of mind. Doesn't sludge up as much and keeps engine cleaner. Be careful on higher mile vehicles as it could clean sludge out and start leaking if you have bad gaskets.
