What steps do I have to take to remove the oil pan on a 4.2l 99 f150?
It has a crack by the oil drain plug that a previous owner(dealer) put epoxy on and now it is leaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought the truck 8 months ago without warranty, and this is the first oil change since I bought it. I thing that the dealer is at fault because they changed the oil last!!

Is your truck a 4x4 or 4x2?
On a 4x4 you remove the front diff assembly and then the pan will come out.
On a 4X2 you are supposed to remove the engine. I'm not sure if it can be done without removing the engine though. Sometimes you can raise the engine enough to get the pan out.
you can remove the pan on a 2wd 4.2 by unhooking the transmission and lifting the engine up as far as you can without unhooking the harness with a hoist. You don't have to take it all the way out but it's tight.
