My grandpa who taught me to drive in his '74 Chev pickup sold me on Fords he always told me what a piecer it was and how much he wished i would run it off the road into a big rock as long as I didnt hurt myself or his camper on the back lol, that and all we have ever owned in my family is Fords (except a corsica, what a hunk!)
well to be perfectly honest im big and fat and i needed something that had good room in it and i liked the room fords had in them compared to chevyand also the fact that fords ride better i was raised on gm dad and mom currently own three chevy trucks a '74,'83,& a '01
my dad commented today when we went to the parts store that my '80 ford rides better than his '83 chevy and its got new shocks also he commented that it felt like it had a lot more power and liked the roomieness. hes got a 305 in the '83 chevy
I grew up in a Chevy family too- they still buy 'em. Three new Ch. trucks in the past year. The Other Bower and I looked for months for a "new" truck, and all the Chevy/GMCs cost too much except for base-model 2WD 6-cyls with no options. Plus they don't ride like "trucks" more like waterbeds on wheels.
This Bronco caught our eye (we always liked the square bodies) but we thought it was too old. It was but we bought it anyway, loaded, low miles, cheap, everything the Chevys weren't. We are officially hooked. Now we want a new F250.
I learned to drive in a '57 International 1/2 ton. My dad was a Chrysler/Desoto fan, so I felt it was my duty to show him there were other manufacturers out there.
I made the GM mistake once.................only once. Since then I've owned:
'61 Fairlane 2dr post
'65 Galaxie XL 500 2dr hdtp
'69 Mustang Coupe
GM Mistake (I'm sorry, guys. It'll never happen again)
'86 F250 XL
'95 F250 XTL
'03 F350
When I first got into this business, I was selling Chevies, because this is a GM town (used to be 2 big GM plants here). Well, I got tired of selling 3/4 and 1-ton Chevies that kept blowing up/ falling apart/ what have you. From my experience, a Ford Super-Duty will out-pull, out-run, or out-last anything that GM has to offer. The 1/2 ton trucks may be closer, but Ford dominates because of the Super-Duties. When was the last time you saw a GM-based ambulance? How many large contractors/ drilling/ utility companies use Dodges? That's what I thought......
for anyone that knows me well....it was my 83 towncar i restored. I had always been a chevy kid. I grew up racing chevies. i raced a camaro and an s-10 drag racing. But when i got a good deal on a towncar for my first street legal car i figured i'd drive it for a month or two till i could find a chevy to drive....lol...never again. I spent the next year and a half restoring my town car to mint condition. Then i sold it for the truck. FORD power ever since.
My dad always had Fords so I think that was a big part of it. I learned to drive in his 1965 Ford utility truck (see, "What Did You Learn To Drive In" thread).
My dad also had a 1968 Fairlane station wagon (<a href="http://motorhaven.autoanything.com/">289 </a>V-8, great motor) which I used when I first got my license.Though I can't really say that the Fairlane wagon was a chick-mobile , me and my buddies did have a lotta fun in it.
The first vehicle that I owned was a 1972 Ford Econoline Van (old Sears fleet truck) with a <a href="http://motorhaven.autoanything.com/">302 </a>motor in it. I fixed it up pretty cool and ended up doing a little better with the ladies after that .
When I was 19, I bought a 77 F150 supercab,shortbox, 2wd, with a 300 and a C6. The truck was really rusty but it ran like a top.
I used to take that truck out on the snowmobile trails in northern michigan in the winter .....just to cruise around. I had good mud/snow <a href="http://service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=37919709&siteid=39251846">tires </a>on the back and about 800 pounds of fire wood for weight. It was nearly unstoppable. Been a ford fan ever since. My brother had to buy a few chebby trucks and blazers before he figured it out but he is a Ford man now too.
a 67 f100 that had a 66 <a href="http://motorhaven.autoanything.com/">390 </a>hi po between the fenders. every evening my neighbor would come home from work. the old truck was a mean old truck pretty fast too. widened steel wheels painted black with chrome lugs. i've owned a few new f150's and always go back to the 70 models. currently have a 78 f100 thats dark blue and them old widened steel wheels, painted black with simple chrome lugs.
