I know im kinda goin against the grain, but i was wondering what originally turned everybody on to FORD trucks. I know a thread about trucks is unusual under this heading (General Conversations) but I couldn't think of where else to put it!!! ....LOL For me it was an F150 my uncle had when I was a kid. It had a 6" susp. lift and a 3" body lift. All sittin on a set of 38" Gumbo Mudders. Was very cool and ever since then that was all I have wanted.
although i loved my father's 77 bronco since i was a kid, he had me trained as a chebbi lover... untill i got my lisence and drove the bronc' for a year( till i finished school) then when i started lookin for a truck.... everyday i drove by a blue 79 f-100 and kept tellin my friends that i should buy it for a huntin truck..... finally i stopped in and tried it out..... it had one flat, and 2 balled tires. a dead battery, 250 6cyl and a c-6 without a kickdown rod...... bought it as is for 600$ canadian. and after 3 month's work had it road legal...... after 6 years of that same truck, only failing to get me home once(my own fault), i guess they've won me over.... plus with the stock pile of parts i've got now.... how could i go wrong.... lol
Learned how to drive in a 50 Ford pick-up. You had to turn the steering wheel about 1/2 turn before the wheels started moving, and it was indestructible. I mean it lived through my older sister, myself, and 2 younger sisters. Wish I had it now.
I would say it is genetic for me. My dad has never owned anything but Ford, well he did have a 32 plymouth, but as long as I can remember it has been Ford.
Learned to drive in a 66 Fairlane 390 GTA, and a 72 F-250 Custom with a built 360. Given my starting point, how could I not grow to be pure Ford?
My very first vehicle was a 56 Chevy. To some that may be enough. For the life of me I couldn't get rid of all the rattle's. My cousin traded me his 53 Sunliner for it, and I've been in love with Ford's ever since.
I was talking to a guy I work with about 6 months ago about buying a cheap Subaru or something to get me to and from work while my girlfriend drove my car, while hers was in the shop. He told me that he had a 72 F-250 Camper Special he would sell me for $500, and that it ran fine. So I went and drove it, and bought it the next day for $400 and a Big Mac Extra Value Meal.
The outside of the truck is ugly, but the engine, a rebuilt 352, runs great. It needs a trans seal-up job and a carb rebuild, and new tires, but other than that its a good truck.
I have always liked the styling of the old Fords, and Chebbies ride funny...

Aside from the fact that my grandfather worked at the ford stamping plant I remember plowing in my dads old 85 F-250. I always messed with the radio and remember the little stereo light on it. I used to raise and lower the plow. So the first truck I bought was an 86 F-150 that looked exactly like the old 85. Wish I didnt sell it. So ford was the only thing I grew up around and never rode in anything else. I am only 19 and 1985 was a long time ago for me.

On order.. 2003 Ranger Edge
My father had always owned Fords, from the late '40s until he died in 1970. His last ride was a 66 Fairlane GTA 390, black w/red stripes and interior. I've owned about 10 different Fords including my current F-150.
one word got me interested in Fords.......Bigfoot.
Then my aunt sold my dad and old 70 something f series (ugly brown), had a 3 speed on the column. That truck just would never die. It never left us sit that I remember, infact when my dad sold it and bought a Ranger, the guy who bought it (family friend) says it only left him sit once (this was in the late 80's early 90's). Then he turned around and sold it, so it may still be out there.
I have loved Fords ever since I was a little kid......When Ford came out with that new 97 style..wow I had to have one..Sold My 90 f-150 and got me a 97
Well, after driving GM's for years, I decided I wanted a small truck, and knew the Ranger was about the best out there. I looked at the S10, and just about puked. Now, I'm not fond of any of the newer cars, but as far as trucks, everything GM makes right now looks like a PO'd remake of a 95 to me. So, my only choices were Dakota or Ranger. I've always liked the Ranger, so, there ya go.
Besides, I grew up on Olds, still love em, still own 3, but for trucks, Dodge just looks pretty, but Fords do the work. Chevy, well, I'm not quite sure what a Chevy is for, I'll have to figure that one out some day.
I bought a new 1981 Camaro and had to return it, then I worked at a Chevy dealer and found I had a even bigger piece of junk when I bought a Citation X-11. After that, I have tried not to buy anything GM built after 1980.
My dad was a G.M. man and would only buy Chevys. He had Corvairs, Novas, wagons, and a truck or two. He traded them in so often I thought he was always trying to find the perfect one, only to find out the ashtray was full. Anyway I will always remember the Ford truck commercial where it was going uphill towing a Chevy and with another Chevy fastened to the bed of the truck. I saw that and was sold on Ford trucks. Besides that they have a body style that outdoes the other guys.
ITs simple here, both my parents work for Ford thats all I've ever been around... Cant think of buying anything but a Ford (well maybe a 65-67 GTO). The lease is up on my Focus, cant afford and SVT version, so Ranger here I come!
