Ford has the answers, and they have been given to the dealerships. If the dealerships choose not to use those answers, what do you do?
You hit the nail on the head. I understand people being upset about the CEL and the NoX sensor, but Ford has released the solution to the problem. Now the new problem is getting a dealer to fix your truck the way Ford has outlined. I don't know who to blame for a sucky dealer, the owner or Ford for letting them sell trucks? One thing for sure, I'm glad to see SGT93 truck fixed. I felt bad for the way you were being treated by your dealer.
How about everybody take a valium and chill. almost 1/2 this thread is banter back and forth. For the guys who have not had this problem fixed, I think what the others are saying is to print out the instructions vloney/rickatic posted, take it to the dealer and ask them to follow the procedure. Tell them that since there is a fix, if it doesnt get fixed, you will take all your futures sales and service business elsewhere. On a side note, I had this problem, my dealer applied the fix and the CEL is off.
In general, keep in mind the trucks are very hi tech, lots of computers interacting with you and the conditions. Your roads and weather are different from mine, your towing different than mine, your driving habits different from mine and so on. I have had 5 trucks starting with an 03 6.0 and this truck is by far the most advanced and imo the best designed and built. We'll have problems, but seems Ford is pretty good about the fixes. The dealers are the problem, not ford, not the truck and not the people who post advice on here. Change dealers if they can't apply the fix.
I'm feeling for some of you. You'd think after all the years Ford has been building trucks just maybe they'd get it right.
Ford + Deisels = trouble.
I hope they get these trucks right for you guys.
...when I read this nonsense I thought I had logged onto rvnet by mistake. This is the kind of comment usually reserved for "other brand" basher's on that site. Obviously the poster has not followed along with the introduction and then sales of the very successful 2011 Super Duty's. If he has been following along...
As recent as last month there were several posters here that were experiencing some sort of emissions related CEL's. A few of these were also having some power related issues along with the CEL. There were also a few guys with somewhat erratic transmission shifting. If I am reading this current thread correctly, there is one transmission guy and 2 or 3 NOX sensor guys who are still having some issues. Keep in mind that there are 250,000 of these trucks out there. How big of a problem actually exists? I suggest, not much of a problem. It has been posted here by 2 highly reputable Ford dealership diesel technicians that the fix has been released. There has been an update provided by Ford to address the very few NOX CEL's that require a manual reset of the adaptive learning tables. Why keep arguing with the guys who work on these trucks every day? One of the techs owns a 6.7 that had the NOX sensor issue. IIRC, his truck also had the CEL return after the flash. He has experienced the total problem and resolved it successfully. The remaining owners with NOX CEL's can resolve their issue as well...stop complaining and take the truck to a dealer who has competent technicians. They will repair your truck. It is that simple
There are no pom pom's being waved here. This is not about Ford being the greatest. The entire conversation is about the need to use all the tools at your disposal to resolve your problem. It would not matter which brand you are driving,
Vloney, thanks for posting this fix, this is the first time that I have seen this. I printed this out and will take to both of the dealers that have been trying to fix this. Thanks again.

I just read the other thread that Paul started and it looks like Ford might be getting to the bottom of this. Thank god. It looks like we just have to wait a little longer. This is by far the best truck that I have owned but please understand this is very frustrating for the people that have this problem. I could care less that the light is on, it's just the lack of power it has when warmed up and I use this truck for work. There have been times that it could hardly get up a hill on the interstate towing 10K lbs. Like I said, I love this truck and it is the first year out of the box so we should expect some stuff to happen. My only gripe is how long it has taken, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks,Jason
I have had nox sensor replaced twice and light came back on sunday. I will call dealer tuesday and nsee if they have a fix. Truck runs fine with light on so at least I'm not stuck in limp mode.
I appreciate this thread and the resources it provides.
new to me 70,000 mile f350 with the dreaded 164a.
one sensor was replaced at dealer, cleared the cel, I drive home happy. Next day, its baaaack. I have to drive this as is as it's all I have and no more pot to go 75 miles to dealer.
i bought a mail order I'd II reader and reset the cel for now.
My reader says it's a level 3/3 severity. Stop and don't drive.
reading here it sounds like others drive it as is? I feel no power loss, and runs clean at all speeds, freeway or dirt road.
i have to drive several hundred miles next week, no towing, is that a big risk?
thank you gurus. I love my new to me truck. Even better than my 95 7.3 for sale.
