Jack up the rear end, with the front wheels chocked and the rear on jack stands, put it in drive gun it and let off and see if the rear wheels stop like the brakes are on. If they do then you have it narrowed down to the rear, and pull the rear calipers off and do it again to see what happens. If it still acts like the brakes are applied, then you have a problem with the differental.
Something has to be getting hot! These trucks don't just stop themselves! Did you jack it up and check for free spinning wheels? If it's free, try hitting the brakes a few times hard then try to see if any are hung up. When coasting down the road put your truck in neutral and see if it feels like it let's go. I have a feeling it will let you know what it is soon if you don't find it first! Good luck.

I know it may sound odd but I had this happen to another truck of mine. The brake booster went bad and somehow it was applying the brakes. I had to put my left foot under the brake pedal and pull up on it to get the truck home. It would do the same thing. The higher the RPMs the higher the vacuum, the more it braked.

I did this - ROTORS off - but did not put it in gear. It took a long screwdriver in the wheel studs to spin the axles, almost too hard to turn with bare hands.

I use IR thermometer all the time to check the health of things. You can tell a couple psi difference in trailer tires, easily evaluate wheel bearings and of course identify a sticking brake caliper. My rear diff runs 150-160* - same as my dually does and the axle bearings are usually just a little over ambient temp... I do feel like my MPG's aren't what they used to be, but since I don't measure the amount of fuel I put in my truck and I've been towing, blowing up turbos and such - its hard to tell. I had decided not to worry about it - but that strategy doesn't always work so good for me! Actually, at 254k, I'd like to do a rebuild and stiffen up the LSD anyway!!
Anyone got a labeled picture?
The guy that told me to unplug it called it a wastegate.
Its a sensor with what looks like a vacum hose and a electric plug in.
