Steering be gone

Hi all,
I am replacing my steering wheel with an exact oem wheel. I am however, running into problems just getting started. Can someone fill in the steps on what to do after you have removed the battery and airbag fuse? I've taken 3 screws out from the bottom of my steering column and the lower cover.
All help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks. I have heard it is not that difficult. Yet, here I sit trying to remove the plastic cover off the steering column...lol. I can find instructions for the earlier models but nothing for the 07+ expy's.
I can't wait to get the new steering wheel on...

Done, well, almost!

Hi,
Since there weren't any replies from people who have actually removed their airbag themselves, I thought I would give a brief overview of how I did it. The first thing I did was to disconnect the battery and remove the fuse to the airbag. The next thing I did was to remove the steering column cover. I removed three screws from the bottom of the cover.

Just grab the top cover by the hole around the tilt lever and on the right side by the ignition and give a quick snap upwards and it will come apart.

Then I turned the steering wheel 90 degrees to the right so that I could get access to the three airbag clips on the back of the steering wheel. Once I removed the first clip, I rotated the steering wheel back to center and then another 90 degrees to the left. Removed the clip and then back to center and 180 degrees to remove the last clip on the bottom of the steering wheel. The clips can be slid off the tab by using a small flat screwdriver. I used a mirror to make it easier to view the clips.

After the last clip was removed the airbag basically jumped right from the steering wheel.

The only thing holding the airbag to the wheel were three connectors. The first connector I disconnected was a red one. Just use a screwdriver to gently pry it apart.

That left two connectors in the center of the wheel. There is a yellow connector and a black connector. Just push in the silver tabs on each side and pull the entire connector straight out.

I was interrupted several times during the process but the actual working time couldn't have been more than 30 minutes.
I hope this sheds some light on airbag removal from an 07+ expedition.
Hopefully the new wheel goes in just as easy.
