I am actively searching for a steering wheel for my '66 and am getting mixed messages as to which years' steering wheels will fit. Anyone have an idea on this?
If have the original may want to consider reconditioning. Salvaged steering wheel for 65 that had minor cracks on the spokes, and base of the horn button housing. Purchased the restoration kit from Eastwood and pleased with results. Kit basically consist of the A/B Epoxy putty, mini, or small triangle file, aerosol can of primer, and can of paint color of my choice. Anyhow, food for thought.
New ones are reasonably priced at around 150-200 bucks.
F100 61 to 70 Two wheel drive. and 66 to 70 four wheel drive.
F250 61 to 70 two wheel drive and 67 to 70 four wheel drive
Well, the steering wheel that's on it right now is an old Chrysler one, I think...maybe Buick. I don't necessarily need to have a '66 steering wheel...or even a truck steering wheel, if Ford used the wheels in other models. Specifically, then: What years in the Ford TRUCKS were the steering wheels interchangeable? AND What OTHER vehicles/years can be used in a '66 Ford pickup?
Thanks for all the responses thus far. The steering wheel I have works OK and is in good condition. It is just an ugly color, and because it is not 'correct' for the truck, the turn signals do not "return" properly. Not a huge issue, but it bothers me. (I'm picky, I guess.)
i bought the wheel on my 63 falcon, that looks exactly like the original, off ebay and the seller said it was from a 62 fairlane or galaxie, cant recall. it looks the same as my truck wheel. i have heard the depth of the flange might be different, but i also have heard of interchanging them. have not tried it but i have seen a truck wheel on a falcon and the owner said it worked. i would guess the opposite would work too.
Do a search for steering wheels and you will find the info regarding FORD wheels that are interchangable. I believe a 61-63 Falcon one is the same as a 61-70 F100, but verify.
early Falcons used the very same wheel...Garbz has the truck info spot on...the repops though are a TON lighter then original...Im talking a good 1-2 lbs...I suspect thinner rim/spoke material was used...
sounds good - but for us new guys, where are these steering wheels to be found/ bought? In particular, does anybody have a line on Mercury parts? M250?
Love this site!! Keep it up!
A search for "steering Wheels" provided 250 different threads. I did not see where this question was addressed. I suppose it could be buried in a thread with a different subject.
The 1960/63 Falcon horn ring is the same for all of the above, except the Comet. The Comet's emblem is different, otherwise it's the same horn ring.
Dennis Carpenter has reproduced this 3 spoke wheel in black only (C3DZ3600A).
The "chrome" horn ring has also been reproduced, but by whom...I dunno.
The horn ring was chrome thru 1967. 1968/70: Ford painted the horn ring a flat grey color to ward off glare.

FOUR spoke 18" steering wheel: 1961/66 F100/250 4WD / 1961/66 F350/750.
The horn ring & horn button used with the FOUR spoke steering wheel is not the same as the THREE spoke steering wheel" end Quote
The falcon horn ring emblem is differnt too. It says "falcon" the emblem in my truck says "ford"... well it did, before i replaced it. both my car and truck have "falcon" horm ring emblems
