unilite distributor

Is anyone running a unilite distributor? I have one for my truck but never did put it in. It is the mechanical type. I'm still running the original distributor after the upgrade to headers, 4 barrel intake and 390 cfm holley carb.

I had ran one on a Cleveland years ago, and it was great. Clean with no misfiring all the way up to 6500. You'll like it. Only thing of caution, they dont like too high of voltage, so make sure you run the OEM resistor wire or a ballast.

The Unilite uses an optical trigger that won't work with the stock ignition module, so you'd need a Mallory box to run it. And no vacuum advance means mileage will take a hit. From an economy standpoint you're better off with what you've got. And unless you're running it flat out all the time probably better off from a performance standpoint as well.

The optical trigger and module are all inclusive in a Unilite. Just hook up the + & - of the coil & a ground.
