I have a 2002 F250 with factory tow package (factory trailer plugs and hitch) I am not getting power for either one of the turn signals at the back. I checked all the fuses and they are all good. Relay must be working fine because the rear turn signals on the truck work. Any clues as to what is happening here?
My trailer fuses are inside the cab unless there is another fuse block under the hood for them. All fuses for trailer connection have been tested and checked.
2002-2004 models do not have a power distribution box under the hood, unlike other model years, so you are looking at the right fuses.
Is this something that worked before and has stopped? Or are you trying the trailer connector for the first time? It could be the relays. The relays control just the trailer connector, so whether they were working or not would not have any effect on the truck lights. It just seems odd that both relays would quit at the same time.
There are some small auxiliary relay boxes under the hood. The trailer turn signal relays in are in auxiliary relay box 4.
Follow the wiring from the trailer plug back under the bed. There is a connector under there. Make sure it is not corroded and that the pins haven't worked loose.
I had a similar problem, one of the pins had backed out of the plastic connector. The connection looked tight, so it took me forever to find.
I have this relay box under the hood on the driver's side near the firewall. The relays are the 2 with the blue markings with the Ford logo just behind the square relay with the red base. The cover for the box was removed to show the relays. The far left of the picture is the brake booster.
Those are them. If I recall correctly, on some earlier models the relays weren't actually put in at the factory. They were in a bag in the glove box along with the brake controller pigtail, etc.
That's why I asked if this was a failure or if this was the first time he'd used it.
I have those relays under the hood. I can hear them clicking while the turn signals are on. This is a new problem. I have been towing for years with my truck now. Havent towed anything since last year though, and I am towing a small trailer right now for mulch but later this week I have to use my big trailer to tow a tractor and want to make sure everything is working. I also pulled apart the plug near the spare tire as well and no juice there for the turn signals but everything else works there.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this truck or know where I can find one? I spent 2 hours trying to trace down the wires for the trailer plugs and keep loosing them in the harness.
This is the only diagram I have. It might not be very helpful. It doesn't really show where the wires go. And some of the connector numbers and wire colors might be different at the relay box point, because the diesel is different than the gas.
It would be interesting, however, to know if you have constant power at pin 30 of each of the relays, and turn signal input power at pin 86.
Thanks...My one friend came over with his Chilton Manual and it has one in it. I did find the problem following the diagram. The wire coming from #6 fuse was corroded off where it looks like someone had tested the wire before in 2 spots. All that was inside anymore was green dust. I cut and spliced the wire and now it works. Just have to pick up some heat shrink to make the final connection.
Thanks for all the help.
