ignition switch prob?

ignition switch prob?
I went out this morning to start my 1986 F-250 4x4 460 I turned the key it tried to fire once then just cranked so I turned the key off and it kept cranking even when i took the key out of the ignition. Now the solinoid was bought brand new last summer. I tapped the starter with a hammer thinking maybe it was stuck kept doing it.Could it be the ignition switch? The only way i got it to stop was by unhooking the battery cable. Does anyone have any ideas before I take the steering wheel off and replace the ignition switch?

With the ignition key off and the starter still turning, pull the red/blue wire off of #5 in the below diagram.
If the starter is still turning, the solenoid is stuck; if it stops, the problem exists between the solenoid and ignition switch.
Chinese-made starter solenoids don't have a real good reputation.

Thank You so much for the quick reply!The solenoid was the problem.I forgot to mention I pulled the wire in your diagram and it kept cranking. so all I had to do was put my spare on and BAM good as new. Again THANK YOU! I dont know what I would do without this forum. Well i do know what I would do and I would be spending and wasting alot of money I dont have. Not to mention the time and work!
