I was told that it would be more difficult than getting the axles changed over. I am pretty mechanical but not sure i am willing to do something of magnatude. Trust me I had thought about it but if i can get a title to the green truck it just makes more since to keep the engine where it is. That way I dont have to mess with the dash and electrical and fuel lines.
If my buddy that is helping me with the truck doesnt need it I will let you have it. I should know in a couple of weeks would that be ok, or do you need it now.
No, just whenever. I won't mind helping you either...LOL I love working on these trucks! So if you need a hand, my tools and I are just a few miles away. I can also bring a trackho to the table. Might help for lifting things too.
Hey guys still a couple of weeks away from getting to the axle swap but wanted to get your opinion on SUSPENSION. I am not looking to go extreamly high. these trucks sit pretty high with the old woren out springs they have on them now. Brands, high suggestions, I will be running 2inch wheel spacers and 36 inch hummer tires most of the time. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
Ok guys spent all day messing with the 7.3. I could not get the thing started no matter what we tried. I hooked the batteries up to my 2008 king ranch and kept it running on those because the NEW BATTIERIES that I bought for the 7.3 drained in about 45 minutes. I guess my questions what should I try and do now.
Glow plugs
Fuel lines
starter (which was really getting beaten up)
It will not turn over just rurr rurr rurrr but never kick over.
The truck has sat for 2 years so what we did was replace the fuel filter, and take the sending unit out of the rear tanks and put them into a 5 gallon bucket with new fresh desiel. Nothing helped. Starter fluid in the intake helped a little but like I said nothing as far as kicking over. Please any suggestions on getting this bad boy running. I need help. Thanks!!!!
Check that there is fuel getting from the tanks to the filter. Also make sure that your GPs are working. How long is the 'Wait to Start' light on when you first turn the key? You can use a test light to check the GPs. Don't over crank the starter, and give it plenty of cool down time. They are not cheap to replace.
Plenty of folks will chime in here, and you'll get it fired up.
As far as lift, look into a shackle reversal in the front. The rear depends on whether you're going for flex and ride, or want to keep towing capacity. I haven't lifted my 86 yet, and am running 37" Goodyear Military tires with minimal rubbing. Granted my fenders won't look to pretty if I go out and beat on it, but I can wait to do the reversal before that...
Hey bud you need to make sure your gp's are working and you need to make sure your return fuel system isn't getting air intrusion. Also not a bad idea to crack the injector lines to make sure the system is purged since it hasn't been started in so long. I am throwing this out there for the other guys that are more well versed in lift pumps. Could the lift pump diaphragm be cracked therefore not working? Please please please please, no more starting fluid or ether. It has sat too long in my opinion to go to such drastic measures. If you must do something to make you feel a little better soak a rag in gasoline and hold it by the air intake, don't stuff a soaked rag in there. Just hold it in front of it. If I must be scolded for that one please do it now.....LOL
I have not gotten the IDI running. Ran out of time and money to be honest. I am trying to help my buddy out now. So if you could let me know if the 1991 7.3 e40d will bolt up to and work on a 1997 7.3 turbo e4od that would be aweome.
Also does anyone know if they make an adaptor for the IDI to 460 motor? I want to get one running but at more than 1k a peice I just cant swing that much cash. Thanks
