That would be insanely cool!
Then, you'd have to run a choppy cam!

Oh yeah Uncle Jessie will most definately get a trash talker. I like the way the Comp 268 sounds. But after reading all the horror stories about comp cam's right now, I will just look into an Isky with about the same specs.

Horror stories? Those stories are frequent these days with the junk oil, as was already mentioned in a dozen other threads. I had a lifter get wiped out with my new 274 cam, but it's running just fine with a new one....so far. Of course, you could go roller!

Roller? Who makes a hydraulic roller for these motors? Let me go do some peeking! My curiosity is defiantely peaked. LOL

On another note I plan to run diesel oil in the motor. Shell Rotela seems to still have all the good stuff in it. That or Motorcycle oil for air cooled engines still has the goodies.

Also, Do you guys think with the ported head, intake, big cam, etc. that I will be restricting the motor by using the EFI manifolds? I mean I most definately want to use the USER FRIENDLY EFI manifolds but if it will be the most restrictive link in the combo then I will put up with headers.

There's a guy on Ferdsix that is working with a machinist to make custom grinds. Downside is the cost, $650 ready to go. Then you have to get roller lifters for a 460. Kinda spendy, but sure would open up the flow. They said Crower also can make one.
I think diesel grade oil is the only safe oil left to use on an old engine. The EFI manifolds wont be all that bad, but that's just my 2 cents.

3.51? That's odd.
The 9" diff has a 3.50, not a 3.51

It could be 3.50s. The 1B may mean something else.

If I were you, I would take out the shop-installed rocker studs, and put ARP ones in. I used the shop-installed ones, and they started breaking about a year later. I used the ARP's for a sbc, and they cost me about $50. Of course you can prob. get them cheaper on Summit. Why take chances when you can get the best for $50?

Make sure!!!!!! the shop chks the 'installed height and psi' on your v.springs. Buy top quality locks, retainers, springs, seals. If you are going to use an aftermarket cam, then it is crucial you find out what psi they require on the springs. You should use around 110 psi @ recommended installed height.

IMO, the EFI manifolds would be fine, IF you dual pipes, or a good size single, and well-flowing muffs.

One word to the wise: Each decision you make regarding hp effects mpg. You need to have a goal in mind, backed up by research, and work toward that goal, ie., race, daily driver, economy, mpg, or your own blend of them. If you don't know where you want to go, you'll never get there.

Good luck.

P.S.: I forgot to add, the most important step you can take at this point is to have the head and block magnafluxed. If something is cracked and you don't know it, then you spend all your $, time, hard work for naught!! Magnafluxing is peace-of-mind; a cheap insurance policy.
