Injector Mismatch

Ok last January I had a injector go out on me. Being right after christmas I was broke. So I did the replacement myself. I went down to the local friendly dealership parts counter. And asked the nice gentleman to sell me a injector for a 04 F350 6.0. There was no questions about application or VIN number. I have a early 04 built in 08/03 early injectors/icp in the back yada yada. At the time I was not as familiar with the 6.0 and its changes across the years. Im pretty sure I was sold the newer Injector, (black top, black wire tie also I remember BRM not ECRM) and being clueless as to the change installed it. I have driven the truck about 11,000 miles since with no issues. Ok now to the question, what would be the long term effects of this be if any? Ive read they increased the size of the intensifier piston...whatever that is. Im thinking if I installed 1 old version with 7 new ones on the newer truck. The old version would beat itself to death trying to run the same stroke or not inject as much fuel. But haveing installed 1 new version with 7 of the old style on the old style truck would there be any problems? or would it just not wear out so fast? Seeing as it wouldnt work as hard as the others. Maybe its just injecting a tad more fuel with every stroke? Hopefully cheezit or someone who knows will chime in.

Thanks in advance,

I would also like to hear from folks like cheezit on this. Many have mixed them w/ no reported ill effects. That being said however, Ford recommends not to mix them, but does not say much about any potential consequences.

(subscribing as well)

I'm 99.9% sure I've got two different styles in my engine. The four on the even side are original to the engine...the four on the odd side were installed in '10; though I didn't pick them up directly through a Ford or Navistar dealership.

you can runa either a 4c3z or a 3c3z. it wont hurt a thing IMO anyway. all the new reman injectors have white tops. the old remains had black top along with the origianl injectors.
I think the black top remains were really new units in remain boxes too.

So is the only difference in the two the part number. And possibly color of the top? I was under the impression they were different somehow internally.

The older injectors are mechanically different internally but the fuel delivery between the two is the same. You're better off with the newer injectors.
