I suppose you could use that to check vacuum as long as it's clean. Just find a spare port on your vacuum tree or T into one of the lines if there is no spare port available. At idle, it should be somewhere around 17in/hg with an HO cam.
If you're certain that the wiring is correct and there are no mechanical issues, locating an EEC-4 scan tool/datalogger would allow you to monitor ECU inputs and outputs while the motor is running.
SIG RTN is working now. I ran KOEO and got the following codes:
552 - TAB Thermatic Air Bypass solenoid: circuit failure
211 - Profile Ignition Pick-Up (PIP) sensor - circuit failure
332 - Insufficient EGR flow detected
Could 211 and 332 be the cause of the chugging at idle and engine rpm chugging with throttle applied?
After getting the SIG RTN connected the truck would idle high for a minute, then idle low. When it tried to idle low it would ping and pop and back fire, almost die, then return to high idle for a minute. Then continue to repeat until I turned it off.
make sure the TAB solenoid is plugged into the harness. the vacum lines do not need to be run at this time for TAB or TAD sensors.
your base timing on the motor should be set to 10*btdc with spout connector removed. if this isnt the case or its already set its possible the dizzy is bad and needs replaced due to the pip error. this would cause the popping and backfiring.
I cleared the codes and let it idle for 10 min. Then held the rpms at 2k for 2 more min.
The idle was steady at first but started popping and being eradic after 2min. It could not stay at 2k rpms at all. 1500 to 2000 rpms the entire 2 min, like a rocking horse. Checked the codes and all three codes were back. I ordered a msd last night. It has to be the distributor. I will install it on Thursday.
All codes were real. The TAB sensor was not plugged in, the EGR unit was replaced and the MSD took care of the PIP problem. Truck runs great now. MAF conversion COMPLETE!
