Hey all,
Don't know if my pump is going or something else might be starting to fail. When I turn it's not smooth, kinda grindy, especially at low speed. Fluid was a bit low but got topped off. Steering wheel seems to feel odd too, almost like it is stretching up or telescoping during acceleration. Where should I start? (Sorry can't search on the phone and I'm on the road)
Is the pump making noise? They usually "moan" a lot when they're going bad. The pitch of the "moaning" sound goes up & down with engine RPM.
With the strange feel you're reporting with the steering wheel, though, it sounds like the problem is in the steering column. Perhaps one of the bearings disintegrated. I'd disconnect the steering column from the steering gear & see how it feels when you turn the wheel. It should turn freely & not have too much slop...
I'll check tomorrow...easy fix or pretty involved for on the road (if it is the bearing). Wheel is pretty sloppy right now, if it were a clock I have about one hour worth of free play)
A loose steering box could cause the grinding, but wouldn't explain the strange behavoir of the steering wheel.
If it's like my '93, the upper steering shaft is held captive by the bearings in the upper steering column. I think that for the wheel to move around as described, the bearings must be bad...
Hi Every one : Here a question I have a 1994 F-350 4 door , I went an had my truck inspected they told me I need new tie rod end so replaced it an then looking at the others they need to be done also , after replacing everything all the tie rods an the rotors my truck pull to the right an so I replaces my calapers on both sides but when i brake a little hard it still pull to the right so I moved my tires an it still does it an I had an aliment . Any thought on why it does it thank you for your help Rick
Ok, I saw another 92 e350 and checked the play at the lower end of the steering shaft...mine has some, the other has none. Is this telling me it is for sure the bearing?
