I have a issue that I don't understand. I changed the GPR yesterday and while doing so I took the -Neg battery cable off both batteries. I installed the GPR and hooked up all wires and then put the -Neg cables back on. Started the truck and called it a day. Then I leave for work on 3rd shift, I noticed my Battery dash light was flashing and is on still this morning. The issue I have is "WHY" all of a sudden after changing the GPR would I have a battery light when before I didn't. The dash volt meter shows the battery seems to be charging as it is going into the + side showing charge, but yet my battery light is on, but goes off as I go through the gears as I have a 5 speed manual but then comes back on as I cruse. Checking with the meter to see if the alt. is charging and it shows it is. I'm not positive, but it looks like the alt. is putting out 14.5 volts to the batteries at idle. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing my battery light to come on? It starts OK Both batteries are charged and shows it charging????? TOTALLY CONFUSED... I am not a very good troubleshooter when it comes to this kinda stuff... Thanks again for anyone's help or assistance. Bill
As far as I know everything is hooked up correctly. According to the instructions for the GPR it did not matter what wire went where on the GPR as long as the big wires went back on the big screw and the small went on the smaller ones. If there is a difference I don't know what it would be or how to check for it. How would I check the ground for resistance? I'm no electronic tech by far so I have no idea how to check for this. Thanks again for your response... Bill
OK I'll check this out, however, mine is a 96 7.3 250. The GPR looks like a starter relay not like what is shown on this link. Would that make a difference? When installing this GPR I did not see any markings on the relay that would tell me what wire went where? Thanks again for your help.
Are you sure it matters? Both My IDI"s and DI's are the same. You have the control wires -one neg. and one pos.- on seperate small terminals and then the power wires from bat. to plugs, on the large terminals. The GPR can be rotated to prolong the life of GPR. So, there is no difference when wiring.
Thanks for confiming the wiring 540. Thats what the directions said when I read them, that it didn't matter how it was wired. I still don't know why my battery light is coming on after changing the GPR??? Thanks again Bill
A couple of months ago my battery light was flashing on and off. Not all the time though. I took it to my mechanic. He found that a diode was bad in my alternator and changed the diode. A lot cheaper than replacing the alternator. I don't know if anybody will work or rebuilds alternators in the States anymore but here in MX they do.
