"dieseling" is when the engine continues to run after the ignition has been turned off. since your ignition is still on, what you're experiencing isn't dieseling.
not trying to split hairs, i can just read a couple of the ideas on this thread and tell that they were thinking about issues shutting it down, rather than keeping it running.
The fact that it is happening after installing the Pertronix could be purely coincidental, and most likely is! I think garbz is on the right track with the anti-stall pot on the carb. if that is bad all of the adjustment in the world as far as timing is concerned would have no effect on the issue. Dialing the idle way up could help to identify the problem, if it stops happening it probably is the pot! Is it backfiring at all? you might have a failing intake manifold gasket, also do you have a carb spacer? check it for leaks!
one other question... have you checked the float level in the carb lately? If it is too low you could be losing fuel flow due to fuel surge in the carb. That would only show up after braking in some carbs, I had it happen making hard turns, the carb would starve for fuel... Just a thought!
wow. i'm trying to wrap my brain around this one...
the pertronix is just a magnet collar and a pickup. the distributor shaft spins, magnets go round, the pickup makes/breaks the connection to fire the coil.
i don't see how a simple decrease in speed of the distributor shaft could make the pertronix stop working...my head hurts.
