fuel pump?

I have a 2007 F-150 and am having problems getting it to start. it will crank but not turn over, if i wait for a few seconds and try again it will start right up. it runs great and doesnt skip while driving or at an idle. ive replaced the fuel pump and ran injector cleaner thru it, the battery and alternator checked out fine. any suggestions?

Have you changed the fuel filter?

Sorry that was meant to say fuel filter instead of pump.

have you tried turning the key to the on/run position and letting it sit there for a few seconds? I'm not a gearhead, but i've always been under the impression that as soon as the key hits the run position it kicks on the fuel pump in the tank so there is appropriate pressure in the lines for the engine to get enough fuel to start.

From past experience with this same problem you have described it sounds like a check valve issue in the pump. If this is it the pump needs to be changed. I had the very same issue on a chevy suburban twice. Need to see if there is any pressure on the system at rest with key off. There should be. If not that is the problem.

Check the fuel pump relay and the fuse block were it plugs in. I had a 2006 with the 5.4 and the fuel pump had just a the right draw to not blow the fuse but did cause the relay to over heat the fuse block and cause it to have poor contact at times. First started by noticing a slight burnt seem every once in a while. Also would have to crank for a longer period of time. Finally failed at 34,000 miles.

I currently am having the exact issue. I have been told it could be the Fuel Pump Driver Module. You have to drop the spare tire, its behind it and inspect it. they have been known to crack/corrode do to its location. before you buy an expensive pump, take the 5-10 minutes to check it out. Check the connection for corrosion as well.

Also, check your filter. Others have told me cam or crankshaft sensors could also cause the pump not to get the signal to prime. Others have mentioned bad battery... even if it cranks fine, it could be low on juice and not giving the pump/module enough to fire even though the starter cranks with ease.

I will be checking mine out Saturday and report my findings.

Ken
