The factory keyless entry on my 05 Excursion randomly stops responding to the fob after unlocking the driver's door. I either have to wait 20 or so seconds for it to start responding again, or unlock the rest of the doors with the switch. The problem happens with either of the two fobs. Any thoughts?
This happened to me with a previous vehicle. Mine ended up being the battery in the remote. it never showed signs of getting weak, just stopped working. It may be worth a trying a new battery. The autozone near me has a remote tester (red light blinks if it's working). Maybe an auto place near you could have something similar to test it.
Sounds like some kind of security type glitch huh? Next thing I would try - reprogram Keyless remote. It's free and only takes 10 seconds, maybe worth a shot. If you are not familiar on how - Cycle the key from off to on (without cranking motor) 9 times in ten seconds. If you have entered the program mode succesfully the truck will cylcle the locks. Than just press unlock button on the remote. Do you have any trouble with the keyless number pad? Maybe try using that twice within twenty seconds. That may narrow it down to a glitch in the truck and eliminate worries with the fob. You can also type your code then press the 3 - 4 key to open the other locks. Not sure if all that is old news to you, just trying to be helpful .
I've noticed there are some "dead spots" around the truck. Depending on which direction I approach it from, it may not recognize the remote until I am almost at the passenger door. The passenger rear quarter seems to be the dead spot for me.
Anyone know where the antenna for the remote receiver is located on the Ex? Maybe re-routing or extending the antenna could help?
On my old Mercury Sable, sometimes I'd have to squeeze the remote housing together and give it a little twist. Felt like it was rubbing the contacts over the battery just a little to remove some oxidation before it would work.
