keyless entry

Hello all, My uncle recently traded in his 98 or 99 f-150 2wd 4.6 and kept one of the remotes for the keyless entry. I have a 97 f250 ld 4x4 5.4 and was going to use is for my truck. I turned the key off and on 8 times like its been told on here. the doors lock and unlock on the 5th time though so i even tried it then. But the remote will not respond. am i doing something wrong? anyone have ant background on this?

The '98-up F-series remotes will not work on your '97. Read these:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...ess-entry.html
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...-question.html

Check the back of the remote you're trying to program for these numbers:
2L3T-15K601-AA (2L3T15K601AA)
FCC ID : CWTWB1U331
CAN : 1788 104 575 (1788104575)
These will not work on a '97

The '97 is included in these year applications. This list is as close to 100% fact as I'm able to confirm.

Programming instructions:
NOTE: All keyless entry remote transmitters must be programmed at the same time.

To program (or reprogram) the keyless entry remote transmitters into the RAP module, perform the following steps:

1. Make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered.

2. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN five times within ten seconds, ending in RUN. If the RAP module has successfully entered program mode, it will lock and then unlock all doors.

3. Press any button on a keyless entry remote transmitter, and the doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed.

4. If the door locks do not respond for any keyless entry remote transmitter, wait several seconds and press the button again. If the door locks still fail to respond, refer to Diagnosis and Testing in this section.

5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, or wait up to five minutes after step 2, to exit program mode. If a keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed (or reprogrammed), the RAP module will lock and unlock all doors one last time to confirm.

I have the remote listed above and am trying to program for a 94 Explorer--to be honest I assume it has the keyless entry feature as it has the anti theft light on the dash===instructions were to short two terminals (bought on Ebay) and batteries are good) at the base of the steering col. just under the dash---not sure what to look for===30 plus years of electronic repair experience here---all I want is the remote for keyless entry and the panic feature.

Tried the 5 times thing and no response---anyone aware of the manual "turn ignition to run on acc, momentarily jump pins to programming connector located at base of the steering column. doors will lock and unlock to confirm programming. Press any button on the remote. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. Turn ignition off, lock will cycle once again to indicate end of program mode."

Considering this is stone age technology I just want the keyless entry, if not will put a after market unit in the SUV.

If its a 94 the stuff about the steering is wrong===Mine is a 94 and all you need is a paper clip and the the key:

I CAN TELL YOU IF THAT MODEL HOW TO DO IT

If the vehicle has keyless entry it will have the electric door locks and usually the theft alert feature.

remove panel inside rear of truck where jack is stored

to right of washer fluid holder is alarm and to right of that 3 large rectangular plugs----two above the third one.

You want the third one (bottom one).

bottom left connection should be empty--to right usually white wire and above the blank opening yellow/green.

turn ignition key on to full (so about to start without actually starting the engine)

with the paper clip in a U shape insert it in the two pins indicated

Door locks should cycle closed and then open

Push lock button on remote-should lock and unlock---the first cycle will be the program mode and second when you hit the lock will be the remote programed.

turn key off and remove it and then remove the paperclip---there are several codes in the correct remote---the first one I did worked but with limited range and features--second one gave full function and distance

95 and newer use different methods and not all first generation units have the keyless feature.
