i am looking to hop up my 300 a little to get more power and better economy out of it. i am think of doing the offy c intake with probably a 500 edelbrock carb, and the efi exhaust manifold swap with 2.5 inch pipe to the muffler then 3 inch the rest of the way (just for better sound). i am looking for more power on the cheap and i think these mods would help quite a bit without breaking the bank. i'm still new to this so any input about 300-6 performance would help thanks,
X2 on what Harte3 said(make a plan)..... lot's of great read'n on both forums on the 300, head flow is a major setback in the stock 300 and a mild P&P with the efi manifolds into the 2.5 inch pipe makes a huge increase in power along with the intake mods.
alot just depends on what you are wanting this engine to do for you, IE haul'n drag'n 4x4'n ect? with my current setup it's like a v8 pushing my F250 down the road
The 300 inline is a peculiar engine. There are a lot of mods that can be done to increase power greatly, but you end up paying double that of sbc mods.
Like Harte3 mentioned, do your research. Copy and paste into files. Haret3 has done it, and so did I. Divide your files up: Head, block, pistons, ignition, exhaust, and a special file for porting.
A lot of the mods can be done at home if you're willing and able. Most, if you look around on ebay or CL, can be completed for a fraction of what new parts run.
IMO porting the head is the foundation of all the mods. If you don't help that bottle neck of a head breathe easier, then you limit all of the mods. And if you do help it breathe, then you help all the mods hit their stride, take the next step. It is the diff. between hitting the accerator and thinking, dang, 'I wish I had a bit more', or stomping on the gas and going 'holy cow!'
F250, you mind looking at my page, and my plans?......Just see if I have been keeping up on my homework to get better torque, acceleration, etc from my 300....
Thanks man....Tell me what you think, and if you think, or not, that the mods will work good together, and if not, what will fit the bill..

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I'm just a guy with a lot of reading under my belt, and only a few builds. If I were you, I would contact Dustybumpers. He's forgotten more than I'll ever know. When I have a problem, I ask Dusty.
I think the 1.7s are a Chebby thing but it is generally not recommended using them with a bigger cam. If you want more lift, do it with the cam and not the rockers.
